Yacht Charter in the Aegean Sea / Dodecanese

The Dodecanese are a group of islands stretching westward in a crescent between the Turkish coast and Crete. To these 12 islands belong Rhodes, Karpathos, Kos, Kalimnos, Leros and Patmos, to name only a few. Yacht charter in the Dodecanese is very appealing, both from the sailing and landscape perspective. The islands are rather bare with little vegetation, compared to the Cyclades. Some of the islands like e.g. Kos and Rhodes are greener thanks to a number of springs irrigating the islands. Sailing holiday on the Aegean Sea in the Dodecanese is an unforgettable experience for every yacht charter crew.

Wind and climate

In summer it is very hot in the Dodecanes, temperatures over 35°C are likely. In winter the climate is very mild. On the islands of Dodecanese the predominant winds are etesians. They blow from northwest and west, set off in June and blow the strongest in the months July, August and September at 4- 6 Beaufort, however they can blow at 7 Bft., too. It is unforeseeable how long they will blow, sometimes, however, they can last up to 10 days.

In  spring and in autumn the winds blow from the southeast at ca. 2-4 Bft., in winter usually from southeast. Beware of sudden fall  squalls at the lee shores of the islands.
